Changes for 2020 Tax Returns
Due to the ongoing pandemic the ATO have announced the additional items that can be claimed in the 2020 tax returns if you have been required to work from home. In order to correctly calculate these deductions we will require the following information:
Hours per week working from home from 01/03/20. We are able to claim a deduction of $0.80 per hour. This shortcut method includes claims for utilities, cleaning, phone, internet, computer consumables and the decline in value for home office equipment and furnshings
You will need to be able to substantiate the hours work from home. This could be by having time sheets, rosters, diary evidence or a similar document that sets out the hours that you have worked
We have included an additional section in Appendix 4 of the checklist to capture this information
Please note that home office costs can also be claimed for the period 01/07/19 - 29/02/20 although the hourly rate will be $0.52. We will also need the hours worked during this period to calculate the claim.
Your responses can now be recorded directly on the questionnaire using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Once completed please save the pdf and email it back to us.
We will advise you of your lodgement due date when it is made available to us by the ATO. This date will not be before 31 October 2020 and may be as late as 15 May 2021.
We suggest that you provide us with your information as soon as possible to allow us to prepare your return and calculate your liability or refund so that you can plan your cash flows accordingly.
